The story
Ristorante Acetaia describes itself plainly as a "kleines Gourmet-Restaurant" – a small gourmet restaurant – on Nymphenburger Strasse in Munich's western quarters. That modesty is part of the point. The dining room does not try to overwhelm; the cooking does the work. Gambero Rosso awarded Acetaia 2 Forks in its 2025 guide, a recognition that places it among the more accomplished Italian tables in Germany.
The menu reads as confident Italian cooking with a clear eye for quality ingredients and technique. Starters set the tone: calamari slow-cooked at low temperature are paired with mange tout, peas, broad beans and a squid-ink foam; hamachi sashimi comes with zucchini blossom, fermented pepper and a basil-vinegar espuma. The kitchen is not afraid of contrast or precision.
Pasta courses show the same attention. Fresh pecorino ravioli are finished with butter, marjoram and Aceto Balsamico Tradizionale – the traditional aged balsamic that gives the restaurant its name and signals exactly where the kitchen's loyalties lie. Handmade dill tagliolini are served with a gratinated Tristan lobster tail and green asparagus. From the sea, wild-caught turbot and sea bream appear with careful accompaniments; from the land, venison back in a pistachio crust arrives with turnip and Dominican chocolate.
A four-course menu signed "Giorgio's Menü" is available at €95, with an optional wine animation by Michele for an additional €50 – an indication that the pairing culture here is taken seriously.
Wine is not an afterthought at Acetaia. The restaurant hosts dedicated wine evenings – a recent one centred on Ca' del Bosco's Franciacorta range, pairing four expressions including the Annamaria Clementi with a matched four-course dinner. These evenings sell out quickly, which says something about the regulars who have made this address their own.
The combination of precise Italian cooking, a genuine commitment to wine pairing, and the kind of focused, unhurried atmosphere that a small room naturally produces makes Acetaia a reliable choice for an evening that rewards attention.
