The story
On Marzellenstraße in central Cologne, Da Damiano has built a quiet reputation for Italian cooking that takes its ingredients seriously. The Gambero Rosso guide — Italy's most authoritative voice on Italian food culture worldwide — awarded the restaurant 2 Forks in 2025, a recognition that places it firmly among the more accomplished Italian tables in Germany.
The menu reads as a confident survey of Italian cuisine, structured around seasonal produce and well-sourced proteins. Starters lean into luxury without excess: beef carpaccio and veal fillet tartare both arrive with seasonal truffle, while Gillardeau oysters — among the most prized in Europe — are offered by the piece. Octopus tentacle on white bean purée and tuna tartare in sashimi style show a kitchen comfortable moving between land and sea.
Fresh pasta is made in-house. Tagliolini with seasonal truffle, garganelli with prawns and green asparagus, and strozzapreti with beef fillet ragù each anchor the pasta section with care and classical logic. On the main course side, sole with butter and sage, Label Rouge salmon in a pistachio crust, and a crown of lamb in herb-and-garlic foamed butter reflect an approach that respects tradition while keeping the cooking precise.
Desserts close the meal with Italian classics — tiramisu, crème brûlée, zabaione with ice cream, and a pistachio parfait — alongside a well-considered cheese plate.
Beyond the main dining room, Da Damiano also offers an Enoteca and a private space called the Maria Suite, suggesting a venue that can accommodate both an intimate dinner and a more considered private occasion. The kitchen operates Tuesday through Saturday for both lunch and dinner service, with extended availability during Cologne's trade fair periods.
