Dolce Vita in the Chiemgau

At the Vinothek, the Italian spirit of the table meets the alpine landscape of the Chiemgau region. Part of Resort Das Achental in Grassau, this relaxed yet refined dining room brings Mediterranean warmth to Bavaria — large windows frame the garden, and on fine days the terrace becomes the natural place to be.

What's on the Table

Chef Daniel Knott and his team keep the focus on Italian cuisine interpreted with regional produce and a creative hand. Antipasti set the tone, followed by homemade pasta and oven-fresh pizza. San Daniele ham, freshly sliced tableside from a Berkel machine, is a signature touch that signals the kitchen's attention to detail. The approach is neither rigidly traditional nor self-consciously modern — just carefully chosen Mediterranean dishes done with precision.

The Wine List

The Vinothek takes its name seriously. Around 300 labels make up a wine list that earned the Wine Spectator Award of Excellence — recognition given to establishments whose selections demonstrate careful curation, breadth of style, and thoughtful pairing with the menu. The list spans premium producers across a wide range of price points, making it equally suited to a leisurely lunch or a longer dinner.

The Setting

Comfortable and open, the room strikes the right balance between a proper restaurant and somewhere you'd happily linger over a second glass. Hosts Barbara and Ivan oversee the floor, lending the space a personal, unhurried atmosphere that pairs well with the Italian cuisine on offer. The Vinothek is open daily from midday through to the evening.
