Restaurant Medici

Fine dining in Frankfurt's city centre since 2004, with a 700-bottle wine list earning Wine Spectator's Best of Award of Excellence.

The story

Crafted with passion, served with love

Fine Cuisine, Great Wines, Plenty of Passion

In February 2004, brothers Christos and Stamatios Simiakos opened Restaurant Medici in the heart of Frankfurt's old town, on Weißadlergasse just steps from the Hauptwache. Raised in Gummersbach, the two had spent years working through some of Germany's most demanding kitchens — training alongside Alfons Schuhbeck in Munich, Jörg and Dieter Müller on Sylt and at Schlosshotel Lerbach, Hans-Peter Wodarz, and Eckart Witzigmann, with further stints at the Hotel Bachmair am Tegernsee and aboard a cruise ship. That breadth of classical grounding shapes everything Medici does today.

Modern European Cuisine with a Seasonal Pulse

The kitchen's philosophy resists easy categorisation. The Simiakos brothers call it "Modern European Cuisine" — a seasonal, ingredient-led approach that draws on the best of French technique while weaving in flavours and influences from across the world. Daily deliveries of fresh produce keep the menu in constant motion: the business lunch changes every day, the evening menu reflects what the season offers, and the cooking consistently aims for fine dining depth without losing directness. One signature detail worth noting is the house's hand-operated flywheel slicer, used to cut aged charcuterie — including 36-month Parma ham, Gran Reserva Serrano, and 48-month Coppa de Cabecero Ibérico de Bellota — at the table with the care those products deserve.

A Wine List That Earned Its Recognition

The wine programme is what truly sets Medici apart in Frankfurt. Over two decades, the cellar has grown to more than 700 positions, with a particular focus on Burgundy and the finest German producers. Wine Spectator recognised this depth with its Best of Award of Excellence for 2025 — a distinction that reflects not just the breadth of the list but the seriousness with which it is curated and served. Front-of-house director Stefan Krenzer and bar chef Carlos Palacios have been guiding guests through it since the restaurant's earliest days, and their long tenure shows in the ease and attentiveness of the service.

A Room for Every Occasion

The restaurant runs from a brisk weekday business lunch (two courses at €29.50, three at €34.50) through a quieter afternoon card — a glass of champagne, a plate of charcuterie — to a full evening menu and tasting menu from 18:00. The space itself, with its terrace and elegant interior, suits a working lunch as comfortably as a private celebration or a dedicated wine dinner. Medici also hosts "Raritäten Dinners" — evenings built around rare bottles from specific estates, led by the producers themselves — which have become a fixture for serious wine lovers in the city.
