Mine Wine

Mine Wine in Berlin's Charlottenburg is a Wine Spectator-awarded Italian restaurant where refined cooking meets an exceptional natural wine list.

The story

Crafted with passion, served with love

Berlin has no shortage of Italian restaurants, which makes the press verdict on Mine Wine all the more striking. Die Welt called it "perhaps the most cosmopolitan restaurant in the city" — not just another Italian in a city full of them. That reputation is earned through a clear philosophy, articulated by Mikhail Mnatsakanov: "It's about presenting products as naturally as possible. That, for me, is synonymous with elegance."

The People Behind It

Mine Wine is part of the Mnatsakanov family's restaurant world. Aram Mnatsakanov, described in one profile as a Russian Jamie Oliver, brings what critics note is a "luxuriously accomplished simplicity" — the kind of cooking more often associated with New York or London than with Berlin. His son "Mischa" runs the floor with the kind of personal warmth that ends evenings with guests departing in a convivial hug. The wine list is curated by natural wine specialist Holger Schwarz, whose selection is, in one reviewer's words, "not showily loaded, but carefully chosen."

The Food and Wine

The modern Italian cuisine here favours quality ingredients and restraint over folklore. Italian classics are given subtle, confident twists, and the menu is priced accessibly for the level of ambition on the plate. Michael Ellis, former director of the Michelin Guide, put it plainly after a visit: "Italian cuisine, better than in Italy. Fine dining becomes fun dining." The wine list spans natural, biodynamic, and private-label proseccos, with a mix of German, Italian and French bottles. Thanks to a Coravin system, rare wines can be ordered by the glass — a genuine differentiator that earned Mine Wine the Wine Spectator Award of Excellence in 2022.

The Space

The room channels what one writer called "feel-good shabby chic": Tom Dixon pendant lamps, Belgian oak tables, and wallpapered ceilings. Stylish without being stiff. For private events, the Mine Séparée seats up to 34 guests in a semi-private section of the restaurant, with personalised menus, sommelier-selected wines, and custom place cards arranged on long communal tables. A smaller, formerly Berlin's narrowest bar, now serves as an intimate private wine bar for up to seven guests.
