The story
Since opening its doors in 2011, Thai Yim 2 in Paris has dedicated itself to authentic Thai cuisine prepared exactly as it is cooked across the Mekong. The kitchen avoids mild compromises and instead relies on fresh herbs, house-made curry pastes, and hot woks. Diners can adjust the heat from zero to four, allowing guests to experience traditional Thai cooking at their preferred intensity. This approach earned the restaurant the Thai SELECT label in 2016, a government certification reserved for establishments that maintain strict culinary standards.
The menu highlights northeastern recipes that rarely appear outside the region. Khao kluk kapi combines rice stir-fried in fermented shrimp paste with caramelised pork and regional sausage. The Lao-style som tam pu plara brings together green papaya, fresh crab, and pungent fermented fish for a dish marked at maximum spice. Soups like tom yum kung rely on lemongrass, galangal, and kaffir lime rather than heavy thickeners. These elements define a branch of Thai cuisine that prioritises direct flavour over adaptation.
The forty-seat dining room keeps things simple and functional. Green marble tables sit beneath woven rattan lamps against painted blue walls. The space handles everything from quiet weekday lunches to larger family gatherings without losing its intimate feel. It remains a steady gathering point for locals who know the kitchen well. Mango sticky rice and coconut custard appear on seasonal menus, rounding out meals that stay comfortably within a twenty-five euro budget per person.
