A Living Place Born from a Family Decision

In 2018, Louis-Michel and Constance Liger-Belair were offered a house at the centre of Vosne-Romanée by the Lamadon family, whose ties to the Liger-Belair estate stretch back to the 1930s. Rather than leave it empty like so many other properties in the wine villages of the Côte de Nuits, the couple chose to create something the village had long been missing: a place that could serve everyone — local residents, vineyard workers, and visitors arriving from the other side of the world. La Cuverie de Vosne opened in 2022 as the result of that decision, and it has been drawing attention ever since.

The Wine Bar at the Centre of Everything

The wine bar is the heart of the project, and its ambition is disarmingly simple: to allow anyone who has travelled ten or ten thousand kilometres to Vosne-Romanée to drink a glass of Vosne-Romanée in Vosne-Romanée. The list runs to over 2,500 references, organised around three principles. First, every producer from the village appellation is eligible to appear, regardless of scale or prestige. Second, all Burgundy wines beyond Vosne-Romanée are exclusively from organically certified domaines. Third, wines from the rest of the world must come from biodynamically certified producers. Pricing is kept deliberately fair — a multiplier of less than two — so that producers retain the larger share of the value their work creates.

Sommeliers guide guests through the list, and a rotating selection of around ten wines by the glass changes weekly. More than 2,000 bottles are also available to take away, and an integrated postal service means you can ship purchases home directly from the bar.

The wine list's commitment to organic and biodynamic viticulture has earned repeated international recognition: a Jury Prize from The World of Fine Wine in 2023, followed by their "Best Organic Wine List" award in 2024, and regional honours at the Best Wine List Awards 2025 for the best organic wine list in Europe. Wine Spectator has also recognised La Cuverie with its Best of Award of Excellence, confirming the list's standing among the world's most serious wine destinations.

French Food, Kept Honest

The food menu follows the same philosophy as the cellar. Organic charcuterie boards — terrine, parsley ham, rillettes, dried sausage — arrive alongside four-cheese platters featuring Comté, Brillat-Savarin, Cîteaux, and Brochonnais. Warm toasts, snails, os à moelle, beef tartare, soups, and grain salads round out a French menu that shifts with the seasons and the availability of partner farms. A weekday plat du jour is served at lunch. For a more private occasion, a dining room seating up to eight can be reserved, with a chef cooking on-site exclusively for your group.

Beyond the Bar

The building houses considerably more than a wine list. Four junior suites sit beneath monumental Morvan oak beams on the upper floor; two open onto terraces overlooking the vines. An organic grocery store stocks everyday essentials alongside regional products. Private cellars, a terrace table set among the vineyards, and a seminar room are all available for exclusive hire. The Liger-Belair family, established in Vosne-Romanée since 1815, has also earned the Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant label — a French state recognition of exceptional artisanal know-how — and holds the Clef Verte sustainability certification.
