At the far northeastern edge of Sweden, where the Torne River marks the boundary between two countries, Cape East occupies one of the most striking dining locations in Scandinavia. The restaurant sits at Sundholmen in Haparanda, just across the water from Tornio, Finland – and that geography is not incidental. It is the whole point.

A Meal Framed by the River

Panoramic windows open onto the calm, wide waters of the Torne River, with Finland visible on the opposite bank. White Guide, which recognised Cape East in its 2026 edition, put it plainly: the view surpasses most, and the magnificent outlook gives each meal a sense of calm and presence, with the border as a natural backdrop. It is rare for a restaurant's location to function so completely as part of the dining experience, but here the setting and the table feel inseparable.
