The story
Meat District has been running since 2016 from a spot deep in the heart of Porvoo's Old Town, and its philosophy has stayed consistent: charcoal-grilled dry-aged meat, seasonal produce, local ingredients and strong flavours. The restaurant describes itself as a relaxed bistro rooted in craftsmanship and a commitment to responsible sourcing – a place where good food and friendship go hand in hand.
The White Guide recognised Meat District at Fine level in 2026, calling it "a prime hang-out for hungry carnivores" and singling out the wall-to-wall refrigerated meat display where imported and locally sourced cuts hang and age to perfection. It's the kind of place that suits a double date, a family dinner or a larger group of colleagues equally well – buzzy by nature, best enjoyed without a rush.
The menu is concise and confident. Starters include beef tartare, whitefish crudo, fried vendace and fresh mozzarella – a mix of land and sea that sets the tone. In between courses, a seasonal risotto or truffle arancinis bridge the gap before the main event.
The main courses are where Meat District earns its name. Dry-aged cuts are sold by the gram, while the flank steak, petit tender and Iberico secreto offer fixed-price options for those who prefer it simple. Arctic char and grilled chicken round out the selection for guests who lean away from red meat. Sides are straightforward – French fries, early potatoes, San Marzano tomatoes – and a tarte tatin for two closes things out on a shared, unhurried note.
For those who want a structured experience, the Menu 54 offers two starters, one intermediate and one main course at a set price.
The wine list is built around Italy, sourced directly from familiar producers and chosen by hand. It's a deliberately personal selection – the restaurant's own words describe it as "Italy criss-crossed, brought from familiar estates, hand-picked for the list." A PDF list is available to browse ahead of a visit.
Meat District also offers gift cards, and for guests travelling from further afield, the restaurant notes an easy connection to nearby hotel accommodation at Pariisin Ville.
