Boutique Emilia

Boutique Emilia brings the handmade pasta tradition of Emilia-Romagna to Copenhagen, with organic ingredients, curated wines, and serious Italian soul.

The story

Crafted with passion, served with love

From Bologna to Frederiksholms Kanal

Boutique Emilia is the project of Noemi and Stefano, two Italians who brought the handmade pasta tradition of Emilia-Romagna to a small, intimate dining room on one of Copenhagen's most storied canals. The name was chosen deliberately: "Emilia" speaks to a deep personal and family connection to the region Forbes once called Italy's greatest gastronomic treasure, while "Boutique" signals an unwavering commitment to detail, ingredient selection, and a respectful yet quietly inventive approach to traditional cooking. Gambero Rosso recognised the result with a fork in its 2025 guide — a fitting nod to a place that takes its craft seriously.

The Art of the Pasta

The guiding philosophy here is straightforward: "we do what our grandmother did." In Emilia-Romagna, handcrafting pasta has been passed from mother to daughter for centuries — tortellini, ravioli, lasagne — and Boutique Emilia treats that lineage as both obligation and inspiration. Artisans work with organic ingredients, shaping herb-infused sheets and filling delicate parcels with combinations that honour the classics while nodding to the present.

What's on the Table

The restaurant runs two set experiences, each priced at 630 DKK per person. The Boutique Emilia Experience opens with Crescentina e Salame Rosa and a Liquid Caprese before moving through pasta courses: Parma & Citrus (ravioli with ricotta, Parma ham, zucchini, lemon zest, and yuzu butter), Balanzoni (ravioli with ricotta, mortadella, and pistachio butter), and The Signature — tortellini bathed in Parmigiano Reggiano cream, finished with balsamico and truffle "caviar." Dessert lands between mascarpone with strawberries and balsamico or a lemon cheesecake.

The Vegetarian Experience mirrors the structure with equal care: a San Domenico agli Asparagi (a single raviolo with ricotta, asparagus, egg yolk, and butter) and a version of The Signature built around gnocchi rather than tortellini. Vegan and gluten-free options are not available.

The Room and the Drinks

Five high tables face an open kitchen — the whole space seats a maximum of sixteen guests, and the waiting list moves quickly. The wine list rotates weekly, drawing from classic and organic producers across Italy and beyond, always chosen to pair with whatever is on the plate. Cocktails shift with the seasons, running from aperitivo-style openers to more substantial after-dinner pours. Optional wine pairing is available for both menus.

The recognition from Gambero Rosso reflects what regulars already know: this is one of Copenhagen's most focused Italian dining experiences — small by design, precise by conviction.

Only 16 seats and a very positive reputation give the small Bolognese restaurant/shop, owned by the couple Stefano Baravelli and Noemi Sulas, right next to the National Museum, long waiting lists. And rightly so. Here you’ll find both a dining venue and a shop where you can buy wine, vinegars, pasta, cheese, etc., but you can also enjoy a daily menu—completely true to the regional Bolognese cuisine, which consists of one antipasti course, three very different and not overly heavy homemade pasta dishes, and a dessert for 400 kr.
