The story
Nestled on the sandy beach of Øster Sømarken on the southernmost tip of Bornholm, Kadeau Bornholm invites you to experience a celebration of the island's traditions and beauty through food. This gastronomic lighthouse, surrounded by conifers, summer houses, and the serene Baltic Sea, captures the essence of a Bornholm idyll—think tiny toddlers splashing at the water's edge under the first hues of the evening sky.
Founded on the Danish Island of Bornholm, Kadeau is a celebration of the traditions and beauty of the island, told through the story of food. Our first restaurant, Kadeau Bornholm, opened in 2007 on the sandy beach of Øster Sømarken. In 2011, we expanded and opened Kadeau Copenhagen in the historic Christianshavn quarter of the city. Kadeau Bornholm was awarded a Michelin Star in 2016, the first – and to this day only – restaurant on the island with the esteemed accolade. Both restaurants were also awarded a Michelin Green Star in 2023.
Kadeau was founded by childhood friends Nicolai Nørregaard, Rasmus Kofoed and Magnus Klein Kofoed – all three of them Bornholm natives. In 2022, long-term friend and head chef Kyumin Hahn became part of the senior management of the restaurant as partner.
At Kadeau Bornholm, our Nordic cuisine is shaped by the seasons and the unique terroir of Bornholm. Thanks to the island's extended summers, we can cultivate produce like figs and mulberries that wouldn't thrive in other parts of Scandinavia. We produce and forage most of our own ingredients on the island, while also working closely with like-minded suppliers from across the Nordics.
To reflect the variety of ingredients and flavours of Bornholm, our menu consists of around 15 unique servings, each a mind-blowing dish that tells a locally sourced culinary love story. This Nordic cuisine seduces with its focus on fresh, seasonal elements, making every meal an unforgettable vacation love affair with the island's bounty.
Our dedicated kitchen garden is located less than a kilometre from our restaurant in Sømarken. Started in 2012 by Nicolai’s father, Flemming, the Kadeau garden now has four plots, including two greenhouses, and provides both the Bornholm and Copenhagen restaurants with fresh herbs, fruits, vegetables and honey during the warmer months. At the same time, the team works tirelessly to preserve the garden’s bounty to be enjoyed during the winter months.
The garden is now run by Emil, a former sous-chef of the restaurant, who has worked tirelessly to create healthy soil culture and established thoughtful permaculture practices. As with everything at Kadeau, the garden is constantly developing and adapting to suit the needs of the two restaurants throughout the year.
Kadeau Bornholm holds the White Guide Global Masters Level award for 2025, praised as a Bornholm idyll in a class of its own, where the kitchen's mind-blowing dishes make it hard not to fall head over heels in vacation love with both the place and the Nordic cuisine.
