Morton's, The Steakhouse

Morton's Toronto brings USDA prime-aged beef, fresh seafood, and a Wine Spectator-awarded list to Avenue Road in fine dining style.

The story

Crafted with passion, served with love

Morton's, The Steakhouse has a founding story that is hard to forget. Co-founders Arnie Morton and Klaus Fritsch first crossed paths at the Playboy Club in Montreal, where Klaus cooked a hamburger so good that Arnie burst into the kitchen demanding to know who made it. That single bite — what they came to call the "Million-Dollar Hamburger" — planted the seed for a steakhouse that opened on State Street in Chicago in 1978 and has since grown to more than 65 locations worldwide. Toronto's Avenue Road address is part of that international footprint, bringing the same founding ethos — quality, consistency, and genuine hospitality — to one of Canada's most discerning dining cities.

The Steak and Seafood Experience

The kitchen's commitment to USDA prime-aged beef is uncompromising. Morton's works with the same suppliers it has used since day one, accepting only beef that ranks in the top two percent available in the United States. If a cut doesn't meet the house standard, it doesn't reach the plate. Alongside the steakhouse classics, the menu extends to fresh seafood — Chilean Sea Bass, Oysters on the Half Shell, Colossal Shrimp, Red King Crab Legs — making it easy to pair land and sea in a single meal. Seasonal additions keep things current: recent featured items have included Prime Bavette Steak Frites, Wagyu Beef Stroganoff, Oysters Rockefeller, and a Lobster & Crab Cocktail.

Wine, Bar, and Private Dining

The wine program earned a Wine Spectator Award of Excellence, a recognition that reflects a list of more than 300 labels spanning exclusive vintages, sommelier selections, and cult favorites. An on-site Wine Locker program lets regular guests store personal bottles, and the Bar 12-21 offers hand-crafted cocktails alongside chef-selected bites for a more relaxed visit. For larger occasions, intimate private dining rooms host everything from business functions to charitable events — Morton's partners with athletes and their foundations for exclusive evenings, and seasonal wine dinners round out the calendar.

Atmosphere and Hospitality

The dining room strikes a balance between classic and contemporary: elegant enough for a special occasion, comfortable enough for a weekday dinner. Every guest, in Morton's own words, is treated like a VIP — a standard reinforced by a staff whose longevity within the organization speaks to the culture from within. Whether the occasion calls for cocktails at the bar, a quiet dinner for two, or a private event for a larger group, the Toronto location carries forward the same standards that have defined the steakhouse since its Chicago beginning.
