Les Cavistes

Classic French bistro cuisine and a Wine Spectator-awarded wine list in the heart of Ahuntsic, on rue Fleury Ouest in Montréal.

The story

Crafted with passion, served with love

A Proud Ahuntsic Institution

On rue Fleury Ouest in Montréal's Ahuntsic neighbourhood, Les Cavistes has spent more than a decade delivering what they call "restauration sérieuse et attentionnée" — serious, attentive hospitality. The restaurant anchors a small group of complementary addresses on the same street, including Cerise café buvette and Jéroboam, with a team of over 60 people across the three establishments. It is a neighbourhood project that has grown into something the city notices.

Classic French Cooking, Contemporary Wines

The kitchen leans into French bistro tradition — a cuisine classique, executed with care and without pretension. The lunch and dinner menus shift with the seasons, and festive occasions bring their own character: a Mother's Day brunch, for instance, moves from fried brie bites and blini with fish roe to generous mains like eggs Benedict with crab, chakchouka tunisienne, or a rotisserie chicken tourte finished with aged cheddar sauce. The cooking is rooted and confident.

The wine list is where Les Cavistes has earned its widest recognition. Wine Spectator has honoured the restaurant with its Best of Award of Excellence — a distinction the restaurant has held since 2012 — citing a selection built on private imports, exclusive allocations, and a deliberate focus on emerging regions and underrepresented appellations. The list is designed, in the restaurant's own words, to be "agréable à consulter et inclusive": approachable to read, generous in discovery.

Tasting Workshops and a Wine Club

Beyond the dining room, Les Cavistes runs close to a hundred tasting workshops each year across its two venues, guiding guests through wine regions without leaving Ahuntsic. For those who want a more sustained relationship with the cellar, the restaurant's wine club — La Société des Liquides — offers five or ten annual shipments, each featuring six bottles drawn from the team's imports and collaborations, with an emphasis on producers and appellations that rarely appear on mainstream lists.

Groups and Private Events

The restaurant welcomes groups of ten or more, making it a practical choice for corporate dinners, celebrations, and end-of-year gatherings. Two complementary spaces, a short walk apart, serve these occasions within the same warm, French bistro atmosphere — accessible by car or on foot from the Sauvé metro station.
