The story
Isabelle Restaurant & Lounge sits inside The Pearle Hotel on the shores of Lake Ontario in Burlington, Ontario, where the setting shapes the cooking as much as the kitchen does. The restaurant draws its name and spirit from the grandchildren of Grandma Pearle, and that familial warmth is woven into everything here — from the share-style plates to the way guests are encouraged to linger.
The kitchen's approach is straightforward and honest: Mediterranean flavours anchored by the best Ontario can offer. Much of that produce comes from the restaurant's own 5-acre market garden, a low-till, organically managed farm that supplies vegetables, fruits, and flowers across the seasons. Local partners fill in the rest. The result is a menu that shifts with what's actually growing — genuinely seasonal rather than seasonally branded.
The atmosphere blends the laid-back ease of California dining with a European family-style sensibility. Dishes arrive to share, conversation takes over, and the lakeside patio adds an outdoor dimension when the season allows. Whether the occasion is a weekday breakfast, a long Sunday brunch, or an evening in the lounge over cocktails, the pace is unhurried and the hospitality feels considered rather than choreographed.
The beverage program earned Isabelle a Wine Spectator Award of Excellence — recognition that reflects the care put into the wine list. Bottles span Niagara producers like Cave Spring and Bachelder alongside French, Italian, and South American selections, with a solid by-the-glass range that pairs naturally with the Mediterranean-leaning menu. The cocktail list is equally thoughtful, running from a Garden Party with gin, dill, and basil to an Oaxaca Old Fashioned built on mezcal and reposado tequila.
Desserts give a sense of the kitchen's range: a Chocolate Velvet Cake with dark chocolate mousse and almond hazelnut crumble, Pistachio Baklava with mascarpone and honey, and an Apple Caramel Crumble with vanilla gelato. These are straightforward pleasures executed with precision — a fitting close to a meal rooted in seasonal, farm-driven cooking.
Isabelle is open for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and Sunday brunch, with the bar and lounge running later each evening. It serves as a destination in its own right, not merely a hotel restaurant.
