The story
For more than 25 years, Danieli Il Divino has held its place as one of Antwerp's most enduring dining addresses. Set within the former stables of Kasteel den Brandt, the setting alone commands attention: opera-red upholstered furniture, immaculate white linen, and a striking glass veranda that draws the eye the moment you step inside. The atmosphere is one of allure and grandeur, balanced by a service team dressed in classic brasserie attire — attentive without being stiff.
The kitchen draws from both Italian and French traditions, producing a menu of familiar favourites executed with care. Italian classics anchor the à la carte offering — Spaghetti alle Vongole, breaded veal escalopes, and handmade pastas sit alongside starters like Pane Sardo from Sardinia, topped with buffalo ricotta, black truffle and rocket, or a tower of king crab. A dedicated Fruits de Mer card extends the range further, with caviar, lobster and a selection of oysters for those who want to go all in. In summer, the menu shifts to include fresh salads — Caesar, Caprese, Niçoise — that suit the terrace mood. Groups of ten or more are accommodated with dedicated set menus.
The wine programme is a serious undertaking. Wine Spectator recognised Danieli Il Divino with its Best of Award of Excellence in 2022 — a distinction reserved for lists that demonstrate both depth and breadth across regions and vintages. Unique wines and champagnes are a stated point of pride, and the cellar clearly delivers on that promise.
Beyond the main dining room, a first-floor space — Danieli's Bar and restaurant — opens on Friday and Saturday evenings for dinner, and is available for private hire. It's a practical option for events or private parties that want the address without the open-room setting.
