The story
ALBA Bistro is a place where Italian cuisine meets the Baltic coast. Named after the Piedmontese town famous for white truffles and Barolo wine, this bistro in Klaipėda’s Old Town (just off Teatro Square) serves food that is both earthy and refined. Owner Linas Gumuliauskas believes that great flavour starts with the base, so ingredients are chosen with care: flour selected for a 72-hour fermentation, Italian dairy, eggs from local farmers, and tomatoes and cheeses from trusted Italian suppliers. The result is a kitchen that feels northern Italian in spirit and surprisingly natural in Lithuania.
The menu centres on two signatures. The hybrid pizza combines the soft, airy crumb of Neapolitan style with the crisp structure of Roman pizza – a balanced crust that is neither heavy nor flimsy. The other cornerstone is the egg-rich pasta, made fresh daily, where the flavour comes from the eggs, the dough, and the hands that work it. Both showcase the Piedmontese approach: robust sauces, root vegetables, and meat, handled with technique that leaves dishes feeling light rather than heavy.
The atmosphere is deliberately unceremonious. On weekdays, the bistro fills a different role – calm, with more attention per guest, and the same quality as the weekend. It is a strong choice for a lunch break or a quiet dinner. The wine list leans toward Piedmont but offers enough variety; asking for a pairing is encouraged. The space is air-conditioned and family-friendly.
ALBA Bistro has earned a place in the MICHELIN Guide’s recommended list, and in 2025 was named among the 30 best restaurants in Lithuania (No. 11). The award reflects a kitchen that delivers serious flavour without pretence – the kind of place that makes you want to return.
