The story
Oyster Box sits right on the sand of St Brelade’s Bay, Jersey’s most popular beach. The restaurant promises “chic-casual dining in a stylish, elegant environment at the edge of the sea” – and from every table, you get panoramic views of the bay. The interior is airy and contemporary, cool on a hot summer day and cosy on a crisp winter night. There are also outside bar areas for pre-dinner drinks and cocktails.
The restaurant is part of JPRestaurants, a family-run business that began in 1946 as a small studio pottery in Gorey. By the 1960s, they had opened a coffee bar for pottery visitors, and that grew into the group that now includes Oyster Box, Banjo, and the Jersey Crab Shack – run by the third generation. The Oyster Box itself is described as “a beachside-chic Jersey restaurant” and a highlight of eating out in the Channel Islands.
The menu centres on seafood, with Jersey Rock Oysters served in several ways – natural with shallot vinegar, poached with champagne butter, grilled Kenney-Herbert, or with chilli and ginger. There are also hand-dived Jersey scallops, crab tagliolini, and a daily fish of the day, sustainably sourced and local where possible. The kitchen also offers meat dishes, vegetarian and vegan options, and a seasonal Market Menu for great value. The restaurant’s quality has been recognised with a Michelin Recommended award for 2026.
Start with the oysters – the mixed oyster plate gives you four different preparations. For mains, the roast cod and king prawn curry with lime, ginger, and coconut is a standout, or try the grilled local vegetables with smoky aubergine relish. Puddings include a Catalan crème brûlée infused with orange and Cointreau, and a tonka bean ice cream with Jersey butter tuile.
